Name: Mr. Olalomi Amole (Son of Olobe)
Nickname: Aare Mekunu (President of the masses)
Course of study: Unfortunately, I did not attend any higher institution except the National School of Statemanship, London where I studied Marketing which I can compare with O’ level.
Since when have you started journalism and how many years of experience: I started in 1974 and that is about 47 years of experience.
Which radio stations have you worked and for how long: I began journalism at Radio Nigeria between(1974-1990), BCOS(1991-2017) and Fresh F. M.(2018-till date) likewise, I have had presentations at Amuludun F. M., Lagelu F. M., Orange F. M. at Akure, OSBC at Osogbo and many more.
From your radio experience, what can you say about ‘Integrity and Indiscipline’?: In those days, proper scripts are prepared before presentation and your producer must have gone through it. NBC- National Broadcasting Commission has broadcasting code that contains the dos and donts of a journalist at a price. It is not that it is not affordable, it is just that people don’t buy it. Most of them just buy air time for as long as they can afford and say on air anything they consider good to them. Indiscipline spreads in the people involved and how they operate. Discipline begins when each programme has a producer. You loose integrity when seeking for wealth.
What advice can you give that could help the situation: Advisably, there should be standards set for journalism. Each programme should have a producer and check out your presenters.
Is Nigerian journalism really journalism?: As you have said, Nigerian journalism or is there any other name for it? Journalism is journalism though the way you practice it may differ.
Over the years, some people have said that there is competition between Fresh F. M. and Splash F. M. Is that real? No. Everyone markets their product/service the way they think they can make sales. (Ko si alakara tani akara to hun ko dun). But there is no competition between the two stations.
So far so good, what are your challenges as a journalist or in investigative journalism? I do not have any because I will never go beyond my boundaries or try something I can not do.
Since you have been in journalism, what are your achievements so far? I have a small house, I have been riding a car since the 1980s till now, I have children here and in the diaspora likewise, I have integrity.
