EID-MAOLUD: The federal government declares Tuesday as public holiday
The federal government has declared Tuesday,19th, October 2021 as public holiday in celebration of this year’s Maolud-Nabiyy in commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The Minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola, congratulated all Muslims at home and in the Diaspora for witnessing this year’s occasion.
According to the statement, Mr Aregbesola admonished all Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of love, patience and perseverance which are the virtues of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), adding that doing so would guarantee peace and security in the country.
“Ogbeni Aregbesola enjoined Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to refrain from violence, lawlessness and other acts of criminality. As the indisputable leader of our race, we must show responsible leadership in Africa,” the statement said.
Nigeria witnesses steady increase in inflation rate for 7 months – NBS Chief
Mr. Simon Harry, Statistician-General of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), has said the inflation rate in the country has witnessed a steady increase for the past seven months.
The CPI, which measures inflation, increased by 16.63 per cent (year-on-year) in September, under the All Item Index.
“One would have no option but to be optimistic that this trend will be maintained to a reasonable period of time as long as government determination is sustained in the implementation of current policies that have been put in place.”

Professor Kayode Adebowale Emerges As The New Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan
Prof. Kayode Adebowale, the current deputy VC (administration) has emerged as the new vice chancellor of the University of Ibadan. His emergence was made public in an announcement by the chairman of the university’s governing council, John Oyegun.
Adebowale emerged ahead of seven other candidates who made the final list screened by the Vice Chancellor Selection Board as eight aspirants were earlier selected for the position from a list of sixteen who applied for the position.

UCJ UI HOLDS HER 34TH ELECTION
Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan chapter held her 34TH election for the 2021/2022 academic session on Friday 15th October, 2021.The voting exercise commenced at 11 am and ended by 6 pm.
The newly elected executives are; President-Dada Ibukunoluwa, Vice President (Administration)-Phil Aniemeke Vice President (Editorial)- Odeyinka Oluwatobi, Assistant General Secretary-Lawal Raimat, Public Relation Officer I- Adewale Adedoja, Public Relation Officer II- Olalekan Jubril, Financial Secretary- Saanu Victoria.The General Secretary’s office is still open as no one vied for the position. The handover ceremony is set to hold on Saturday 23rd October, 2021.
UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN HOSTS YSAN CONFERENCE
Department of Linguistics and African Languages held the Yoruba Studiea Association of Nigeria (YSAN) National Conference from 11th-15th October, 2021. The Conference themed “Yoruba Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” marked the association’s 50th anniversary celebration. The opening ceremony was held on 12th, October 2021 at Otunba Subomi Balogun Conference Centre, U.I. Hotels.
Sub-themes of the conference include; COVID 19 pandemic, Health care system, Culture, Gender issues and so on. The YSAN president, Prof.Duro Adeleke further advised that the association shouldn’t comprise of students of Yoruba studies alone but also include students speak Yoruba as their mother tongue, as a good command of one’s mother tongue aids the learning of any other language.
KUTI HALL FINALLY RESPOND TO THE ELECTION SCANDAL
The election scandal which claims that the Kuti Hall executives were involved in electoral malpractices of conducting a mass voting for their residents through the use of their details from the log books has been clarified by the Hall Chairman. He claimed that the activity was in a bid to help Kutites who had difficulty voting.He explained that some students were accredited but didn’t get their login details while some login claimed they had voted without voting.
He further explained that these problems prompted the executives to provide a MiFi connected to a laptop so that residents could vote easily,but they were misunderstood.He concluded by congratulating the victors once again and wishing them the best.
