POLITICS IN A POLITICAL WORLD

I live in a world of the wise and prudent. I live in a world of deceit and shamelessness. I live in a world of truth and pure truth. I live in a world of victory and charming successes. I live in a world that has existed in the past and only the Creator knows if it will ever exist in the future or a brand new world will be given to us. I live in a boulevard where there is opportunity for anything to happen, it is wide enough. I live in the world where errors become norm and appropriateness is a sign of shame without traces of smartness. I live in a world where sinners judge other sinners for sinning differently. From here, came I.
It grieves me so much when errors are made normal and following the due process is like joblessness or it portrays a person as the only standing saint. Why do people with political ambition act responsibly only when election is close by? Surely, it is not a day decision to conclude that they will be vying for a position but why are they so unknown before election is around the corner? Why do politicians have to make people feel like a bus-stop they can walk up to anytime they feel it is necessary? Why do politicians have to be a total stranger at first and try to be the closest friend when it is time for election?
This is a problem in our society that should be a thing of concern to us. It is becoming a norm but it should never be. Some people are beneficial in their community and people speak well of them yet, they have no political ambition on mind. Some people are beneficial to the community yet, they have political ambition on mind and some others are non-beneficial to the community yet, they have political ambition on mind and will display influence and affluence only to get a vote from each person. It is quite notable that the politicians that speak peace and display affluence only during election get to the position of power and do nothing for the people because that was never part of him.
In Nigeria that I live, a local government chairman may not know the local government he chairs. Quite unfortunate that as huge as he may be paid, he surely knows nothing going on in his community. After election, the people that voted become illiterates and villagers that they do not want to associate with anymore. People now shoot their shot by collecting as much as they could get from any aspirant.
This applies to the Students’ Unionism in the University of Ibadan. We now receive messages on WhatsApp, we are stopped on the way and greeted properly also telling us their political intension. Now, we see fliers around that show what they are aspiring for. The message we did not get in our first semester. Nobody remembered to wish us well during our last semester exams but they now greet us at the dots of a clock. This is a political habit that should not be. This poor habit does not speak well of our politicians rather it shows that they seek for position not for the interest of others.
Dear aspirants, balance this equation. Let the students have a good rapport with you and not just a political relationship only in second semester.
