Sometimes, some achievements are not preconceived. Sometimes, you get lower than you have imagined and in other times, you get higher. Life has taught us that the best in a field doesn’t always get the loudest recognition and the most patient doesn’t always eat the fattest bone. Sometimes, some benefits we earn are products of luck. But luck needs to be understood. Luck isn’t just the happening of an event out of the blue and it isn’t just grace; luck is simply time and chance working in your favour.
In a sense, grace and favour work together and deliver a blessing packaged as luck but the factors: time and chance are the principal authors of what we can term ‘a lucky blessing. ‘ Gifts and talents are abound but time and chance working together simultaneously is rare. In every field of life, be it art, science, technology, religion and the rest, there are more than enough people out of the 7 billion people on earth that are seasoned in it. But it is not every name that we hear of.
Most times, the fame we desire just needs time and chance working together as one. The recognition our talents deserve depends on these two; the achievements we wish to have gotten depends on these two; the brilliant choices we would have made depends on these two – several things and happenings in this world depends on these two. Even death relies on these two for its success.
Why is this so?
The resources are most times always available but imagine having everything you need to execute a work and all the time you need to bring it to a perfect finish but the chance to showcase what you’ve invested your resources and time into never shows up; what do you do?
Absolutely nothing. Until that chance reveals itself, you have done nothing as far as the world is concerned.
Now, imagine a golden chance to showcase your work to the world landed on your lap but somehow the time to execute that work was not available, what do you do?
Still nothing. Sometimes you are asked to do something that would probably open doors but that time frame given is occupied by another event.
However, careful study of events have shown that chance seems to be the lacking factor for several people. This is why many potentials are buried without recognition or acclaim.
Five years ago, students around the country had the easiest form of entry. Students that wrote their Jamb that year had the cheapest route to admission as Post-Utme was canceled for that year. It is no news that Post-Utme is like the monster standing between the student and the university of his or her choice. This is a perfect example of time and chance coming to play in the lives of some people. After that year, the educational board reversed that policy and went back to conducting Post-Utme for their prospective students.
Should we pray for time and chance while going through our life journey?
I think so. Their importance cannot be underestimated.
